To say that the Portal commission opened doors is a play on words, but Steven acknowledges that this piece helped him build not only a lasting relationship with the client, but also helped him launch his business.

The Portal, commissioned for a private home in Hilliard, Ohio, is a stainless-steel sculpture that is 8’ x 5’ x 2’.

Helen and Dick Delong not only became clients, but friends after working with Steven to design the Portal, purchasing several other pieces and eventually, commissioning Steven to craft Dick’s urn.

In the Portal, Steven understood that his ego played no role in his art; he wanted to create something beautiful to thrill his clients – and he built not only a lasting piece of art but a long-time relationship with the Delong family.
